Insightful Classroom Series - Scientist - Inventors - Part 4 - Dorothy Vaughan (Hidden Figures)
Just like Kathrine Johnson, Dorothy Vaughan specialised as a mathematician and was considered a human-computer in her own right. After receiving a full scholarship to attend Wilberforce University in Wilberforce, Ohio, she graduated in 1929 with a B.A. in mathematics. She began working at NACA's West Area Computing Unit, going on to be promoted to a lead position in 1949. She and her team would make fundamental discoveries in the field of astronomy. Dorothy became NACA's first black supervisor and one of its few female supervisors. She would also become a strong advocate for her team members, even going as far as intervening personally when colleagues deserved pay rises. Portrayed by Octavia Spencer in the movie Hidden Figures.
