This is my poster design for October's Black Outdoor Art, entitled "Black British History is British History", in celebration of Black History Month (UK). The billboards were displayed across London, in Camden Town, Brixton, Lewisham and Walthamstow.
The poster features a Union Jack rendered in the colours associated with the Pan-African flag, devised by Marcus Garvey in 1920.
I was looking for a way to graphically represent the assertion, that the story of Black people in Britain, is fundamentally British history.
That British imperialism, colonialism, slavery and migration, and our connections to the Americas and Africa, are fundamentally a part of the British story. From early beginnings to the industrial revolution, and our post-war recovery.
Black Outdoor Art is hosted and made possible, from billboards donated by Brotherhood Media.
